Multidisciplinary Cross Training
MAGIC is partnering with University of Michigan geriatricians to establish the Multidisciplinary Cross Training initiative. This innovative pilot initiative will foster a shared understanding of decision-making capacity, guardianship standards, and the role of medical documentation in probate court proceedings. By bringing together judicial and medical perspectives, the initiative will support more informed, consistent decision-making and will expand training to additional legal and medical professionals and other practitioners who work with adults at risk of guardianship.

Guardian Ad Litem Training
MAGIC is establishing an innovative Guardian ad Litem training initiative in partnership with Michigan courts. This initiative will support consistent, person-centered GAL practices through targeted training, curriculum development, and evaluation strategies that center autonomy and meaningful participation for older adults and people with disabilities while providing high-quality information to Probate Courts.

Lived Experience Workgroup
MAGIC is establishing a Lived Experience Work Group made up of individuals who have been directly impacted by the adult guardianship system, as well as individuals who have avoided guardianship through alternatives. This work group exists to ensure reforms are informed by real-world experience, grounded in dignity and autonomy, and aligned with the principle Nothing about us without us.
