MEJI’s Sarah Slocum Honored with Exceptional Service Award
In October, Sarah Slocum, MEJI's Systemic Public Policy Advocate, received the Exceptional Service Award from the ELDRS section of the State Bar. The Exceptional Service Award recognizes Sarah's role in the state's decision to increase the asset limit for Medicaid from $2,000—where it had been for decades—to $9,660, with annual adjustments tied to changes in the cost of living. This change enables far more people to qualify for Medicaid and means individuals on Medicaid can maintain more significant savings. This award is only given periodically when the ELDRS section determines an individual has demonstrated remarkable success in advocacy. The award also recognized Sarah's decades of advocacy and service to older adults and people with disabilities. Congratulations to Sarah Slocum!
