MEJI Staff Attend National Consumer Voice Conference
MEJI staff attended the National Consumer Voice Conference held in Arlington, VA from November 3-6. Consumer Voice, now celebrating its 50th anniversary, is the leading national advocacy organization for long-term care residents on issues related to resident rights, adequate staffing, and quality of care and life. Alison Hirschel and Nicole Shannon presented on Protecting Residents' Civil Rights, Sarah Slocum moderated a panel, and Alison gave the final presentation of the conference. MEJI staff members also met with Congressional staff to talk about the long term care ombudsman program, the need for adequate staffing in nursing homes, and the goal of more transparency and accountability in nursing home financing. Sarah serves as the chair of Consumer Voice's Leadership Council and Alison is Consumer Voice's Immediate Past President and will continue to serve on the Board.
