Happy National Family Caregiver Month

Michigan Elder Justice Initiative wants to thank everyone who is working hard to provide care to family and loved ones. Around 1.7 million Michiganders spend 1.12 billion unpaid hours every year serving as a caregiver (1). MEJI deeply appreciates those of you who have undertaken that task and works with clients in the PACE, MI Choice, and MI Health Link waiver programs to make sure family caregivers are paid for their services when possible.

AARP and the National Alliance for Caregiving report that 63 million Americans are caregivers, which is a 50% increase since 2015 (2). There are programs that provide support for caregivers, such as respite services and training. There are also programs that pay family caregivers when caring for a family member enrolled in the Medicaid program. You can get information by contacting MI Options at 1-800-803-7174.
