MAGIC is recruiting adults with experience of guardianship to help shape reform in Michigan.

The Michigan Advancing Guardianship Innovations Center (MAGIC) is establishing a Lived Experience Advisory Group to help improve the guardianship system in Michigan. MAGIC believes that meaningful reform must be led by the people most affected by it.

Who should apply

We are looking for adults who:

  • Are currently under adult guardianship
  • Were under guardianship in the past
  • Use or have used other supports instead of guardianship, such as supported decision-making

What members will do

In a group setting, members will:

  • Share their experiences with the guardianship system
  • Talk about what works and what does not work
  • Make recommendations for improving guardianship in Michigan
  • Help decide how their voices are heard in policy, practice, and program development

Time commitment

Meetings may be held once a month or every other month, depending on the group's needs and preferences. Meetings can be online, in person, or both.

Compensation and support

Participants selected for the group will receive a $25 gift card for their time and expertise for each meeting attended. Support may also be available for transportation, caregivers, communication needs (such as interpreters or plain language materials), and other accommodations.
